Mid-century Teak Room Divider by KP Møbler
A mid-century, two section room divider from K.P. Møbler, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
KP Møbler was a highly respected Danish furniture maker founded around 1952. The workshop is most famous for its close partnership with renowned Danish designer and former shipbuilder Kurt Østervig (1912–1986) during the late 1950s and 1960s. Together, KP Møbler and Østervig created understated, functional, and structurally sound pieces using solid woods like oak and teak, as well as luxury veneers like Brazilian rosewood.
This piece is the modular room divider, model KPJ 105. It was available in various configurations. This model was built with the Lower Cabinet with teak sliding doors and one shelf and the Upper Cabinet with sliding glass doors. The shelves are teak. The side and middle ladders are oak. The support arms underneath are brass. As you would hope, the back is finished, allowing it to sit beautifully anywhere in a room.
It measures 82 inches wide by 15.75 deep by 71 high.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. It was originally purchased in 1963 in Wiesbaden, West Germany. It has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness and now the teak grain glows with new life.
True to Østervig's background as a naval architect, the piece avoids a bulky, boxy look. It features an open, double-sided vertical structure supported by elegant, gently tapered solid wood legs that permit light to filter through, making it perfect for separating a dining and living area.
This is a beautiful mid-century piece ready for a new home.
