6 Teak Mid-century Dining Room Chairs

6 Teak Mid-century Dining Room Chairs

$2,400.00Price

A set of six mid-century slat back teak chairs designed by Svend Madsen offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

The curved slat back chairs are marked and were designed by the Danish designer Sven Aage Madsen. He was a student at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1932 to 1935. After graduating, he worked for several Danish design companies before founding his own firm, Svend Aage Madsen Design Studio, in 1955. Madsen has won several awards for his work, including the Gold Medal at the Milan Triennale in 1957 and the Lunning Prize in 1961. His work is considered part of the modern Danish design movement, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s.

These chairs are simple, graceful and ergonomic in their lines as well as being very comfortable. They were produced in Denmark in the 1960s. They have a back height of 39 inches and a seat height of 18 inches. They have been professionally re-covered with new high density foam and Knoll fabric. These chairs are marked underneath, identifying both the designer and country of origin.

These chairs are in excellent vintage condition. There is an old repair to one chair that has been reinforced for good measure. See image 10.  It is strong and sturdy. The foam and fabric are new. The teak has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness and really bring out the beauty of the grain.

This is a beautiful set of 6 Danish modern dining room chairs that will be a focal point with a teak dining room table.
