Culver 22K Gold Punch Bowl and Punch Cups, Valencia Pattern

Culver Ltd. was founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1939. Back in the day, Culver glasses were known to be lavish and full of style with their 22K gold accents. Today they are still full of style and highly sought after as mid-century glassware. From the 1950s through the 1960s Culver gained fame and their products became collectible. They were known for being sold only at high end stores where people dressed up to go shopping. Culver was sold in 1996.

This punch bowl set with 10 glasses is classic Culver. Of course, all pieces have the Culver signature 22K gold highlights. Each glass, as well as the bowl has the Culver script trademark. This set is in the gorgeous pattern called “Valencia”, with its 22K gold “Moroccan styled trellis” and green diamonds. The glass is thick and heavy as it should be. The “original” Valencia pattern began in 1962. Sometime, in the 1970s this original Valenica pattern was changed to a different, in my opinion, much less striking, version of the pattern. The Valencia pattern was discontinued in the 1980s. It is a highly sought after and collected Culver pattern.

The bowl measures 10 ½ inches at the top diameter and stands 6 ¼ inches tall. The glasses are called “punch cups” and feature a nice thick base for good weight and a nice feel in the hand. A glass measures 2 ¾ inches top diameter and stand 2 7/8 ths inches tall.

The set is in excellent vintage condition. The 22K gold is strong and shows no wear. “No” wear is a difficult thing to say for pieces that are easily 60 plus years old, but I am comfortable saying it here. This set has been rarely, if ever used. There is no dishwasher haze, no cloudiness and no chips, cracks or rough edges. It has been well taken care of and probably stored for decades.

This set is big and there are a lot of pieces. There will be some double boxing involved to ensure its safe arrival. This will increase its shipping cost but is a good investment. This is a beautifully done punch bowl set from back in the day, when quality and style mattered and 22K gold glassware was the epitome of chic. This set is ready to make its reappearance at a Christmas party this year.
