Drexel Profile Marble Top Coffee Table
A mid-century marble top coffee table from the Profile line by Drexel Furniture, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
Drexel Furniture was founded on November 10, 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina. They are known for high end furniture in a wide variety of styles. In the 1950s and 60s they had several lines of furniture that embodied the mid-century modern style that were popular at that time. Drexel is still in business today.
This piece is from Drexel’s Profile line and is called “Cocktail Table”. The Drexel Profile furniture collection was designed by John Van Koert, and it was in production from 1955 to 1961. The Profile line was made of walnut and pecan. This piece does not indicate the stain color but it is lighter than you would expect when you think of walnut.
This coffee table base was made with three different tops. The most common was a solid wood top. They also made a light brown/sand colored travertine stone top. I have only ever seen this marble top version described in a Drexel brochure. This is the only one I have ever “seen”, including pictures and extensive internet searching.
Underneath it is marked K92-3. This specific piece was made in October 1958. It measures 55 inches by 21 by 17. It features gracefully angled and tapered legs. It has a shelf underneath the main surface. The beautiful surface really makes this piece pop. It is a cream color marble with swirls in shades of gray. It is absolutely gorgeous to the point where pictures cannot do it justice.
This table is in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips or roughness on the edges. There are no stains to the marble. The wood base is solid and in excellent condition as well.
This is a beautifully done mid-century table by Drexel.
