Lane Perception Dining Room Table and Chairs

$0.00Price

A mid-century dining room table with two leaves and six chairs from the Lane Furniture Perception line, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

The Lane Furniture Company was founded in Altavista, VA in 1912. For decades they were known for their cedar chests.  By 1950 they saw Danish modern furniture imports begin to take hold in households and began to make styles to compete.

This is the sleek and very mid-century dining room table and chairs from Lane’s Perception line. The Perception line models start with “222”.  This table is model 222-57. It is made of walnut and features tapered legs that curve at the top and a slight bow in the table width. The grain is remarkable. It has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness and invigorate the wood. The table slides open to accept one or two 12 inch leaves. The mark underneath tells us this table was produced on June 8, 1962.

The table without leaves measures 56 inches long by 38 at its widest by 29 high. The two leaves can extend it to 68 or 80 inches in length.

The chairs from the Perception line are known as “Cat eye” chairs, due to the curved, comfortable shape of their backs. There is one captain’s chair and 5 side chairs. They are models 222-71 and -70 respectively. The chairs have been professionally re-covered with new high density foam and new Knoll fabric in their classic vintage line and pattern called DIVA/Lagoon. It is a beautiful textured pattern with mid-century style.

This set is in beautiful vintage condition.  The table top is free of water rings, heat marks and generally any significant wear. The leaves are in equally excellent vintage condition. There are minor repairs to the crossbar in the back of two of the chairs.  They appear to be skillfully done, probably decades ago and unless you know what you are looking for would probably be overlooked. See images 13 and 14. The captain’s chair has good, honest wear on the arms.  I much prefer them this way as opposed to trying to sand them and match the stain. See image 11.

Lane’s Perception line is one of its most sought after, with that just perfect American mid-century style.

We also have the matching Lane Perception hutch which has been together with this dining room its entire life. They would love to remain together.
