Large Mid-Century End Table by France and Son

$0.00Price

A hard to find mid-century teak square step end table by France & Son of Denmark from SnowdriftAntiques.

Founded in 1948 by the British businessman Charles France and his Danish partner Eric Daverkosen. In the early years the company was called France & Daverkosen, Charles’s son James joined the company in 1957 which resulted in the name change to France & Son. France & Son was one of the first Danish furniture manufacturers to have a purpose built factory specifically designed for their needs, most other companies had evolved from very humble cabinet makers premises.

The company was at the very vanguard of modern design and came to epitomise the Danish modern aesthetic. They had an incredible rostra of designers producing work for them which reads like a who’s who of design at the time, they included Arne Vodder, Grete Jalk, Peter Hvidt & Orla Molgaard Nielsen, Inger Klingenberg, Finn Juhl, Ole Wanscher, Greve Sigvard Bernadotte and Edvard & Tove Kindt Larsen.

This large, square step end table is made of solid teak and was designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard. It was made in Denmark and is from the 1960s. It features a square base and a boomerang shaped top level.  The legs are tapered in classic Danish style. It is marked underneath the top piece with the two classic France & Sons enamel badges.

The base level measures 29 inches square and the top level stands at 25 inches high.

This hard to find piece is in excellent vintage condition.  The teak has excellent grain and color.  At round 60 years old, it has some minor wear but has been well kept over its years.
