Large Mid-Century Oil Drip Art, Ships Signed by Venturi
This vintage mid-century art piece was produced in the 1960s in the style called “oil drip art”. The main body of the image was painted on usually pressed board, then a thicker oil paint was used for three dimensional highlights. In this case the gold colored highlights on the painting are the dripped oil. I have tried to show this in image 5.
These large paintings were a favorite of the 1950s and 1960s as they were affordable and looked good behind the family sofa.
This one features a large, docked ship and smaller one in the background with a sky full of cumulus clouds. It is signed in the bottom left corner, “Venturi”. The artist remains unknown to me. It is framed in a nice, dark frame. It has a wire in back for hanging.
This is a large piece, measuring 52 ½ by 28.
It is in excellent vintage condition. I find no holes, tears or loss of paint. I have lightly cleaned it.
This is a great looking mid-century art piece with a nautical theme.
