Mid-century Barware, 8 Culver 22K Gold Highballs, Valencia
A set of 8 highball glasses by Culver in the pattern Valencia with 22 K gold, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
Culver Ltd. was founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1939. Back in the day, Culver glasses were known to be lavish and full of style with their 22K gold accents. Today they are still full of style and highly sought after as mid-century glassware. From the 1950s through the 1960s Culver gained fame and their products became collectible. They were known for being sold only at high end stores where people dressed up to go shopping. The company was sold in 1996.
This set is in the gorgeous pattern called “Valencia”, with its 22K gold “Moroccan styled trellis” and green diamonds. The glass is thick and heavy as it should be. This “original” Valencia pattern began in 1962. Sometime, in the 1970s this original Valenica pattern was changed to a different, in my opinion, much less striking, version of the pattern. The Valencia pattern was discontinued in the 1980s. It is a highly sought after and collected Culver pattern. Each glass bears the Culver script trademark.
A glass measures 5 58 ” high by 2 ¾ “ diameter and holds about 18.5 fluid ounces.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. The 22K gold is strong and I find no fading, flaking or wear of it. The green diamond is strong as well. The rims are smooth with no nicks or chips. There is no dishwasher haze or cloudiness.
This is a beautiful vintage set that will be double boxed to ensure an intact arrival.
