Mid-Century Bedroom Suite by Dixie Furniture
A mid-century bedroom suite by Dixie Furniture from Snowdrift Antiques.
The Dixie Furniture Company opened in 1901 in Lexington, North Carolina. Henry Link and others opened the company, which eventually became Lexington Furniture Brands in 1986.
To keep up with American furniture buyers’ taste for mid-century modern furniture in the 1950s and early 1960s, Dixie Furniture briefly produced some contemporary styles. These pieces are harder to find than their traditional offerings. They followed the mid-century style with clean lines, tapered legs and minimalist handles.
This suite is the 890 line in a color they called “Spectrum Walnut”. It features a nine drawer dresser with a mirror that can be attached or hung separately on the wall. There is a matching 5 drawer high boy chest. The suite includes a full size matching footboard and headboard with sliding doors on the headboard for storage. There is an open shelf on the headboard with a hole in back for cords. The rails for the headboard/footboard are metal with simulated wood grain and it comes with slats.
The handles are brass and have a long, squared design. The drawers are dovetailed. This set has nice grain and striation to the wood and is very solidly constructed.
Dresser: 64” x 19 x 31 H
Chest: 38” x 19 x 45 ½ H
Headboard: 58 ½ “ x 9 ½ x 35 ½ H
Footboard: 57” x 2 ¼ x 12 ½ H
The set is in excellent vintage condition. There is some minor age appropriate wear but overall it has been gently used.
This is a nice mid-century bedroom suite that would work well in a smaller space.
