Mid-Century China Hutch Lane Furniture

Mid-Century Buffet and China Hutch by Lane Furniture

$0.00Price

A vintage buffet and china Hutch by Lane Furniture from Snowdrift Antiques.

The Lane Furniture Company was founded in Altavista, VA in 1912. For decades they were known for their cedar chests.    By 1950 they saw Danish modern furniture imports begin to take hold in households and began to make styles to compete.

This is a beautiful mid-century two piece buffet and china hutch by Lane. This set bears the model prefix of 284, which is unknown to me and so far has evaded my research efforts.  It looks a lot like the Lane Perception line with its basketweave look.  However, this basketweave is slightly different with the strips alternating in size.  My best guess is this was an early version or prototype of the Perception line which came later with different model numbers. At any rate, it is a beautifully done piece.

It is made of walnut and comes as two pieces. The base is model 284-60 and was made on December 18, 1961.  It features double doors on each side with storage space and a fixed shelf. The doors have the inset basketweave pattern. In the middle there are 3 drawers. The cabinet up top is model 284-60 and was made on February 28, 1962. It has two sliding glass panels on each side with plate railed shelves behind and two doors in the middle with two fixed shelves inside.  These long, narrow doors also have the inset basketweave motif.

The hutch measures 76 inches wide by 18 deep by 58 ½  high in total.

This hutch is in excellent vintage condition. It was very well taken care of. There is one minor wear mark on the left end of the buffet. I have digitally frosted the door glass in the images to reduce distracting glare and reflection.

This is a beautifully made set with mid-century style with a hard to find design.
