Mid-century Culver Barware 22K Gold Orange Scroll
A set of eight highball glasses in 22K gold by Culver in the pattern called “Orange Scroll”, in a carousel with an ice bucket, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
Culver Ltd. was founded in Brooklyn, NY in 1939. Back in the day, Culver glasses were known to be lavish and full of style with their 22K gold accents. From the 1950s through the 1960s Culver gained fame and their products became collectible, being sold only at high end stores. Culver was sold in 1996. Sixty years later, they remain lavish and full of style.
This set of eight highball glasses are by Culver. The striking pattern is called “Orange Scroll”. They are from the 1960s. They feature very mid-century textured orange ovals and the classic 22K gold highlights Culver is known for in a beautifully done scroll pattern. Each glass is marked on the bottom edge in a small Culver gold script.
This set sits in an orange and white metal carousel. There are opposite handles on the side for easy carrying. It rotates easily. In the center is a plain glass ice bucket with an orange lid and brass accent knob. I cannot say for certain that this carousel and ice bucket are also Culver. I have never seen an example of another one, either in person or online and it is not marked. If it is not Culver, it should have been, because together, they are about as cool as barware gets.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. There is no dishwasher haze to the glasses. The graphics are excellent. I have looked them over carefully by eye and find no loss of paint or gold. The carousel is in excellent condition as well. The only speck of paint loss I can find is on the lid of the ice bucket. There is a tiny scratch, slightly less than ¼“ long. See image 6.
A glass measures 5 ¾” tall with a diameter of 2 ¾“.
This set is the ultimate in mid-century barware.
This set will be carefully packed and double boxed for shipping. It will add to the cost of shipping but is a good investment in an intact arrival.
