Mid-century Danish Teak Credenza and Floating Hutch
A high quality, mid-century teak credenza by Uldum Møbler with a floating hutch, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
This sideboard is “Model 15” and was manufactured in the 1960s in Denmark by Uldum Møbler. Their furniture reflected the mid-century modern aesthetic, with clean lines, functional designs, and often featuring teak wood. It was designed by Danish born Johannes Andersen (1903-1991). It bears the Uldum mark in back.
The floating hutch is not marked and is finished on the back. The floating hutch and supports were designed by Danish cabinet maker Povl Dinesen and they work beautifully with the graceful lines of the credenza. This hutch is Model PD-72. Paperwork shows that these two were purchased together from the Povl Dinesen showroom in Copenhagen, DENMARK on January 9, 1964. They have been together their entire lives.
This high-end set is solid teak, not veneer. Inspection of the edges will confirm this, as will trying to lift one end. It has beautiful color and grain as you would expect.
Each end of the credenza has four drawers with beautifully sculpted handles. The focal point of the front of the credenza are the masterfully done, very thin tambour doors that gracefully slide behind the unit to reveal storage space and four adjustable shelves. Underneath are stretcher bars on each end and tapered legs.
Under the floating hutch sit on two hourglass shaped braces that slide into brass fittings to hold them in place. Two glass doors with finger grooves up top cover the storage space including two shelves. On the top of the hutch, there is a faint remnant of an old watermark from a plant. It has been minimized as much as possible and is out of sight. See image 10.
The sideboard measures 94 ½ “ wide x 19 ¾ x 33 high. The hutch sits 12 inches above the sideboard and measures 71” wide x 12 ½ deep x 20” high. The total height from floor to hutch top is 65 inches.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. Some loving care along with a light oiling has brought the entire piece to its previous glory. The grain is beautiful and the teak color glows in its natural beauty. The pictures speak for themselves.
This is a classic Danish beauty at almost 65 years old that will be a focal point of any mid-century dining space.
