Mid-Century Danish Teak Dining Room Table And Teak Benny Linden Chairs
A mid-century Danish teak dining room table with 6 Swedish teak chairs from Snowdrift Antiques.
This beautiful mid-century dining table and chairs combines creations produced in two different countries from two renowned designers.
The teak table was manufactured in the 1960s by Bramin of Denmark.
Originally known as N.A. Jørgensen, Danish furniture manufacturer Bramin was founded in Bramming, a region on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula. Throughout the 1950s, '60s, and '70s, the company produced seating, tables, and case goods in a style representative of the Danish mid-century modern era. Bramin's ad campaigns promised "Deres garanti for kvalitet form og function" or “Quality, form, and function: guaranteed.” Bramin closed in 1980.
In its heyday, Bramin collaborated with many well respected Danish designers and had a reputation for producing high end Danish furniture. The designer of this Bramin dining room table is uncertain but it was most likely Norwegian linguist/mathematician/designer Henry Walter Klein.
It is a rectangular table with arcs on either side. It is beautifully trimmed along the edge. It has flattened, tapered legs. It separates in the middle to allow a large single leaf to be inserted. It also has a fifth leg in the center than can be extended for center support if you wish. The mark underneath indicates it was made on January 18, 1968. It has its classic blue Bramin sticker.
The table, without its leaf, measures 47 inches square by 29 inches high. The single leaf is massive, adding 29 ½ inches to the length for a total of 76 ½ inches.
These teak chairs were made in the 1960s by the Swedish furniture company, Svegards Markaryd of Markaryd, Sweden. They are ink marked underneath. These chairs were almost certainly designed by Danish designer Benny Linden. The comfortable and contoured ergonomic backs of the chairs are a classic Linden style. He coincidentally designed for Bramin as well as Svegards and many others. There are four side chairs and two captain chairs.
These chairs are sporting new foam cushions as well as beautiful new, vintage style fabric by Knoll. It is from their Diva collection in the color called Lagoon.
The condition of the table and the chairs can be described together . They are in excellent vintage condition. They are structurally sound and solid. The teak is bright with excellent grain. The table and chairs have been oiled lightly to relieve them from the Colorado dryness. Both have some minor, age appropriate wear but overall they are in beautiful condition as shown in the images.
