Mid-century Desk and Chair by Drexel Furniture
A matching mid-century desk and chair from the Profile line of Drexel Furniture, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
Drexel Furniture was founded on November 10, 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina. They are known for high end furniture in a wide variety of styles. In the 1950s and 60s they had several lines of furniture that embodied the mid-century modern style that were popular at that time. Drexel is still in business today.
This desk and chair are from the Profile line, designed by John van Koert. The line was produced from 1955 to 1961. The desk is model K95-2 and the chair is model 65-2. They were made in April 1957. The desk has the classic mid-century style of the Profile line. In images 4 and 5 you can see how the side wall of the desk sits recessed from the front legs which goes all the way to the surface and tapers towards the back. The desk has two deep storage drawers with original pulls. It has a shallow, long drawer just over the chair opening. It is finished on the back allowing it to sit anywhere in a room.
The chair has tapered legs and is designed to perfectly match the desk lines. It has a tri-oval opening in the back. It has new foam and has been professionally re-covered with Knoll/DIVA fabric.
The desk measures 44 inches wide by 20 ¾ deep by 29 ¾ high.
Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition. The top of the desk has some minor wear over its decades of use but nothing major and no water rings or lamp spots. The chair is solid and sturdy.
This is a beautifully done vintage desk and chair by Drexel.
