Mid-Century Dining Room Table and Chairs
A mid-century, teak draw leaf dining room table by Ansager Möbler, with six chairs, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
Ansager Mobler was founded in 1922 in Ansager, Denmark. Ansager was not known for ground- breaking designs, but for solid craftmanship and solid woodworking techniques. They owed their great reputation in the industry to three generations of company ownership and management. In the 1960s and 70s,
during the Danish Modern boom, they had tremendous global export and focused mainly on dining room furniture. By the 1990s they focused on the Scandinavian and German markets. As tastes changed and competition increased, Ansager closed in 2013. Their solidly built and beautifully done pieces are highly sought after today.
This teak Danish dining room table is the draw leaf style, where the extra leaves on each end slide under the main table when not in use and are easily extended for extra seating. The table appears to me to be solid teak from the look, feel and weight. It is marked underneath with an Ansager sticker and ink stamps. This table has beautiful wood grain that continues into the leaves when extended. It has excellent color and grain. It is probably from the 1970s.
The chairs are not Ansager but coordinate beautifully with the table. They are not marked so we aren’t sure who made them. They have slat backs with a nice curve near the base for support. They are covered in a black woven fabric that is most likely a wool blend.
The table measures 55 ½ inches long by 37 ½ wide and 30 ½ high with both leaves tucked in. This provides enough room for six chairs. When extended, each leaf measures 19 ½ ”, allowing the table to extend to 75” with one leaf extended or 94 ½” with both leaves extended.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. There are no water rings or dark spots on the table. The chairs are solid and the fabric is in excellent condition.
