Mid-century Dresser with Mirror and Highboy Chest by Broyhill

$1,450.00Price

A mid-century bedroom dresser with mirror and a high boy chest by Broyhill, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

Broyhill Furniture was founded in 1926 by James Edgar Broyhill as the Lenoir Chair Company in Lenoir, North Carolina. The company grew from a small chair-making business into a national furniture brand, known for its mid-century modern designs and quality construction. Broyhill Furniture was acquired by Big Lots in the early 1990s and later by Heritage Home Group.

The Pacemaker line was the first foray into the mid-century modern aesthetic for Broyhill.  MCM enthusiasts will be more familiar with the Sculptura and Brasilia lines which came later.  The Pacemaker line came out in the early 1960s.  Based on the production stencils on the back of these pieces, it is safe to say these pieces were made in 1963. Their tapered legs, clean edges and smooth lines have all of the MCM boxes checked.

This pair consists of a nine-drawer (3x3) dresser with an attached and matching mirror. The high boy chest has four drawers. All three are marked on the back indicating they are from the Broyhill 4015 Pacemaker line. Inside the top drawer of the high boy, there is a sticker extolling the virtues of the resistant qualities of Panelyte, which is the synthetic polymer used to protect the surfaces.

The dresser measures 58 inches long by 18 x 31 ¼ high. The mirror measures 40 ¼ inches high by 28 ¼ wide. It is mounted vertically.

The high boy chest measures 34 inches wide by 18 x 42 high.

These pieces are in excellent vintage condition. The Panelyte surfaces have done their job over the years. They have been oiled lightly to revitalize the walnut and relieve them from the Colorado dryness.

These pieces have been together their entire lives and will remain so.
