Mid-Century Drop Leaf Dining Room Table and Chairs, Accord Line

$0.00Price

A mid-century dining room table and chairs from the Accord line of American by Martinsville offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

The American of Martinsville company was founded in Martinsville, VA in 1906. Originally they produced only bedroom furniture, expanding to dining room furniture in the 1920s and living room pieces in the 1950s. They employed some of the best American designers in order to emulate the Danish modern designs coming from Scandinavia. They are still in business today.

This Martinsville drop leaf dining room table is model 6806-24 from the Accord line. The Accord line is made of solid walnut and is highlighted with a nickel “X” inlay. It is a dense, heavy piece and very well constructed. The Accord line was designed by Merton Gershun (1909-89) and features round, tapered legs and Danish styling. It comes with 2 additional table leaves and table pads. This piece is from the late 1950s to 1960s.

At its longest, with drop leaves up and both extra leaves inserted, the table measures 85 inches long. At its shortest, with leaves out and drop leaves down, it is a svelte 25 inches, perfect for two. It is 40 inches wide and 29 ¾ high.

The Martinsville chairs are model 6800-27, also from the Accord line. They feature a caned back framed in walnut. These chairs have new high density foam for comfort are resplendent in their beautiful, new but vintage style fabric from Knoll. The have a back height of 33 ¼ inches and a resting seat height of 19.

This suite is in excellent vintage condition. The table was obviously well taken care of, probably protected by pads. It is free of water rings or any significant marks. There is some very minor wear in places along the table edge and some minor wear to a couple of the legs.

The chairs are in excellent vintage condition as well. The cane is intact. The chair backs on top have some age appropriate wear to the stain from decades of handling, providing a “real” patina to the wood.

The Accord is a beautiful and highly sought after line by American of Martinsville which will be a highlight in any mid-century dining room.
