Mid-Century German Schrank Bar Cabinet

Mid-Century German Schrank Bar Cabinet

A mid-century German schrank bar cabinet by Munker-Modell from Snowdrift Antiques.

German cabinets like this one are called Schrank cabinets. In the USA they have come to be pronounced “Shrunk” cabinets. Schrank cabinets can serve many functions including armoires, china cabinets, bar cabinets and even entertainment centers.

This one is the Altena 200 by the German company Munker-Modell in the 1960s. This piece can serve for storage of any kind but with its three locking doors it was designed as a bar cabinet. It has a beautifully lacquered woodgrain front.

The large door on the top left can be locked and has two shelves that can be removed. The two bottom doors also lock. There are three drawers on the bottom section. The top section has a sliding glass door and a sliding wooden door with the same lacquered veneer as the rest of the cabinet front.  In the center top is a grooved mirror section. On the right top is a curved section with a white vinyl padded section with a curved glass shelf. It comes with three keys for the doors. On back is the Altena 200/Munker-Modell sticker.

It measures 78 x 19 x 61” H. It is a two piece model that makes for easier moving.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition with only minor normal wear.

This is an unusual piece that will be the focal point of any room.
