Mid-century Johnson Carper Delray Bedroom Suite

 
A four piece set of Johnson Carper bedroom furniture from their line called “Delray”, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
 
The Johnson-Carper Furniture Company was founded in Roanoke, Virginia in 1927.  The became known for stylish but affordable furniture for the modern American home in the 1950s and 60s.  Johnson-Carper furniture was a fixture on the bedroom set of the TV show “I Love Lucy”. 
 
This five drawer chest is from the line of Johnson Carper furniture called “Delray”.  It is walnut wood with laminate surfaces with a very nice wood grain. The drawers feature wide, concave,  rectangular handles and horizontal wood strips for a clean mid-century look. The Delray line also sports what are typically referred to as “tuxedo button” pulls.  These are metal pulls that are white in the center with a rim around them, resembling buttons you might find on a tuxedo jacket.  Tapered legs complete the mid-century style of this 1950s line from Johnson Carper.
 
The dresser is marked 88-3711 and is the 6 drawer version with a matching, attached mirror. It measures 54” wide by 17 ¾ deep by 30 high. The mirror is marked 88-3795. It has matching lines across the top. It measures 41” by 25 and is about 1 ½ inches thick. It could be removed from the dresser and mounted on the wall.
 
The highboy is marked 88-3720. It has 3 drawers on the top and two on the bottom with tuxedo button pulls. It measures 33 ¾ “ wide by 17 ¾ deep and stands 43 inches tall.
 
The nightstand is not marked and features one drawer with double tuxedo button pulls. It has a spacious opening below.
 
All of these pieces are in excellent vintage condition.  There is some age appropriate wear here and there but no rings, chips or damage to the surfaces.  Overall they have been well cared for over their 65 to 70 year lifespan. The wood has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness. The walnut has excellent grain and good color.
 
This set has been together its entire life and that will continue.  Individual pieces are not for sale.
