Mid-Century Serving Platter

Mid-Century Kitchen Roast and Serve Platter in Original Box

A vintage serving platter on a walnut base in its original box by AC Fabricators from Snowdrift Antiques.

This is a very dense and heavy metal tray with an embossed design. The oval tray is shiny on the rims that give it depth. The base has a brushed surface. It sits on a beautiful walnut tray. The tray has a ¼ inch oval inset to allow the tray sit securely in it. Underneath the ends of the tray, handles are cut out for easy carrying.  The walnut tray has great grain with typical black walnut graining. Underneath the metal tray is a rectangular section that would typically be the AC Fabricators mark, but in this case it is a blank section of metal. The entire piece is in its original box marked AC Fabricators Inc., GARDENA CA". It is also marked "SOLID WALNUT BASE" and "NO. 1218 ROAST & SERVE PLATTER". AC Fabricators was incorporated on June 9, 1954.  This piece is probably from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

The metal platter measures 17 by 12 inches and sits 1 3⁄8 inches above the tray when sitting in its cutout. The solid walnut tray gives the piece a length of 19 ¾ by 18 ¼ inches. The platter and tray weigh a hefty 8 pounds.

This platter is in excellent vintage condition. It was rarely used, possibly only once.  You can find two or three very small knife marks on the metal tray, an indication of the rare use. The walnut base in in excellent condition.  There are no dents or nicks to the wood.

This is a beautiful serving platter for your mid-century dining room.
