Mid-century Modern Armchair by Baumritter

Mid-century Modern Armchair by Baumritter

$0.00Price

A mid-century walnut armchair by Baumritter Furniture, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

Baumritter Furniture, later known as Ethan Allen, was founded in 1932 by Theodore Baumritter and his brother-in-law Nathan Ancell, initially as a housewares company, later evolving into a major furniture manufacturer known for its early American style. Fortunately, in the late 1950s and early 1960s there was a period of time where Baumritter changed with the times and had a mid-century modern inspired line of furniture.  This chair is from that period. It is marked on the front right corner of the frame under the cushion. Baumritter pieces are very difficult to find.

This is a beautifully done armchair made with a nicely grained walnut.  It has spindles for support in back and stretchable rubber straps for extra support beneath the bottom cushion. The legs are nicely tapered as they should be.

It measures 37 inches high in back by 27 ½ wide by 32 deep.  It has a seat height of 18 inches.

This chair is in excellent vintage condition.  It has new rubber straps underneath. Inside the cushions is new high-density foam.  It is very comfortable. It is meticulously and professionally re-covered in a beautiful Knoll fabric with shades of copper, brown, gray and black. The wood has been lightly oiled to relieve it from the Colorado dryness.

This is an eye-catching and comfortable chair that will command attention in any space it occupies.
