Mid-Century Mushroom Floor Lamp by Laurel Lamp Mfg

Mid-Century Mushroom Floor Lamp by Laurel Lamp Mfg

$0.00Price

A vintage mushroom floor lamp by the Laurel Lamp Company from Snowdrift Antiques.

This very cool floor lamp was produced in the 1970s by the Laurel Lamp Company of Newark, NJ. It features a metal rod body that gracefully flares out to a weighted brass base on the bottom and a flared brass neck on top. It is called a mushroom lamp for obvious reasons. On this lamp, the steel rod has been covered in what appears to be wood veneer. This is a common feature with the Laurel lamps with a brass base and neck. It has the Underwriter’s Laboratory sticker marked with “Laurel Lamp Mfg. Co.”.

It stands 57 inches tall including the frosted glass globe. The globe is flattened and provides a nice soft glow. The globe measures 12 inches wide. A small brass rotary switch turns provides 3 way brightness. The base is heavily weighted to prevent an accidental tip over.

This lamp is in excellent vintage condition. It functions perfectly and has a replaced ceramic socket. The wiring and plug are original. There are no cracks or chips to the globe. There is some minor, age appropriate wear to the wood veneer covering the rod body.  It is nothing serious.  See images 10 and 11.

The brass has no pitting but may have some minor patina to it.  I will leave the decision regarding polishing it to the next owner.

This is a beautiful work of mid-century art that also functions as a floor lamp.
