Mid-century Sideboard or Credenza
A mid-century dining room sideboard or credenza by Stanley Furniture offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
The Stanley Furniture Company was founded in 1924 in High Point, NC by Thomas Stanley. He learned the furniture trade from his father-in-law, John Basset of Basset Furniture and went on to late be elected governor of Virginia in 1954. Stanley enjoyed decades of profitability while producing quality American furniture. Following numerous buyouts and re-organizations, Stanley Furniture remains in business today.
This is beautiful piece was originally made as a sideboard or a credenza for a dining. It could still be used for that purpose or re-purposed as an entertainment center. Whatever it is used for in its new home, it will look fabulous.
This piece is probably from the 1960s. I believe it is made of maple. It is beautifully done as all Stanley pieces are. It features 3 drawers with a door on each side. The door fronts have a very cool burlwood pattern that really stands out. There is a fixed shelf in each cabinet compartment. The top drawer is divided. It has a felt insert on one side. Both the dividers and the felt pad can be removed if desired.
It measures 52” wide by 19 deep and 30 ½ high.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. There is some age-appropriate wear here and there, but no water rings or significant marks. It is solid in construction without repairs. It has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness.
