Mid-century Teak Drop Leaf Bar Cart

Mid-century Teak Drop Leaf Bar Cart

A mid-century teak bar cart with a removable tray underneath, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

This vintage bar cart is not marked by a maker so unfortunately it has not been determined exactly who made it.  That is a shame because it is a beauty.  It is made of teak and was probably made in Denmark, most likely in the 1960s. It has written inside one of the drawers, “1966 ALEX. VA.”. I would have a difficult time believing it was made there, but could believe the writing indicates where and when it was purchased.

At any rate, it is a beauty with Danish modern style. There are drop leaves on either side so that one or both can be raised to create a table top with a large service space. The teak is beautifully striated with excellent color and grain.  The way the leaves interlock into the main table top shows the attention to detail this piece received. Underneath is a tray supported in a frame. It can be left underneath as a shelf or removed to be set out or carried for guests. There is a separate drawer on both ends. It sits on wheels to provide easy transport around a room should you desire.

This piece measures 28 inches long and 28 ½ inches high. With both leaves down it measures 18 inches wide.  Each leaf provides 10 inches of extra width to 28 or 38 inches.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition. There are no water rings or damage to the top.  There are no sun shadows as you can sometimes see on teak when something was left to sit on it for decades.  It has been oiled lightly to relieve the teak from the Colorado dryness, leaving the grain vibrant and beautiful.
