Mid-century Walnut Lounge Chair with Ottoman, Drexel Parallel

Mid-century Walnut Lounge Chair with Ottoman, Drexel Parallel

$0.00Price

A mid-century high back, walnut lounge chair and ottoman by Drexel Furniture from Snowdrift Antiques.

Drexel Furniture was founded on November 10, 1903 in Drexel, North Carolina. They are known for high end furniture in a wide variety of styles. In the 1950s and 60s they had several lines of furniture that embodied the mid-century modern style that were popular at that time. Drexel is still in business today.

This elusive chair and ottoman are from the Parallel line by Drexel which was designed by renowned furniture designer Barney Flagg. They are pieces 995-712 and 995-700 respectively. They both have their Drexel furniture tags underneath as well as a tag from Graham Galleries, Englewood, CO, where they were originally sold in the 1960s.

As you would expect from a Flagg designed line, the lines of the chair and ottoman flow together seamlessly.  The chair is high-backed with a perfectly reclined angle. It features beautifully grained walnut with brass nail heads securing its button tufted, original, black  Naugahyde upholstery.  The curved legs in back and the straight legs in front create a graceful “half arc” that is perfectly complimented by the legs of the ottoman that create the other half of the arc.

The chair has a front to back leg footprint of 30 inches and measures 26 ½”  wide. The total back height is 37” . The seat depth is a comfy 21 ½“  with a seat height of 18”.

The ottoman measures 23” wide by 19” deep, leg to leg. It sits, a perfectly comfortable, 16” high.

This pair is in excellent vintage condition.  The light walnut wood has beautiful grain and color. The upholstery of both pieces is remarkable in its lack of wear. There are no cuts, nicks or rubs anywhere on it.  The pair has much less than age appropriate wear.

This is a beautifully designed and constructed chair and ottoman with classic mid-century style. You don’t see this one very often and certainly not in this condition.
