Pair of Mid-century Lamps by Laurel Lamps, ca. 1970s
A pair of mid-century lamps by Laurel Lamp Mfg. Co. and designed by Paul Evans, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
These very cool table lamps were produced in the 1970s by the Laurel Lamp Company of Newark, NJ. They were designed by Paul Evans as part of his Hollywood Regency styled Cityscape line of lighting and furniture.
Paul R. Evans II (1931-1987), known as Paul Evans, was an American-born furniture designer, sculptor, and artist, who is famous for his contributions to American furniture design and the American Craft movement of the 1970s. His creations of metal-sculpted furniture and lighting set him apart. His pieces are highly sought after by designers and end users who love his look. He studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and, for a time, shared a showroom there with woodworker Phillip Lloyd Powell.
These lamps feature a tall column of alternating chrome and walnut rectangles, sitting on a chrome base. Up top is a narrow rectangular chrome column that connects to the 3-way socket. The shades are original to the lamps. They are neutral in color with a light cross-hatch pattern.
These lamps are in excellent vintage condition, with the lightest signs of wear. The electricals are all original and in working order.
These lamps measure 38 ½ inches tall in total with the shade. The body, up to the socket measures 22 inches. The body column measures 4 by 4 inches. The base plate measures 6 x 6 inches. The shades are tapered drum shades with a 15 ½ inch diameter at the base and 14 inches at the top.
This is a beautiful pair of lamps from a renowned maker and designer. These hard to find lamps will add a cool Hollywood Regency vibe to your space.
