Pair of Mid-Century Walnut End Tables by Brown-Saltman
A pair of rare, mid-century end tables by Brown-Saltman offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
This hard to find and elegant pair of midcentury end tables were designed by John Keal during his time working with many talented designers at Brown-Saltman of Los Angeles in the 1960s. John Keal was known for designing sleek, low profile furniture that would fit into what is now called California Modernism.
Brown-Saltman was formed in 1923 and sold beautiful and recognizable mid-century furniture in a variety of designs until close of business in the 1970s. The company's tag line was "Live in the Modern Mode".
This pair is resplendent in its two tier design, smoked glass tops and rich, warm walnut grain. The smoked glass top gives that mid-century modern touch to the beautiful grain of the walnut. Underneath the glass is a second flat surface that looks great empty or it can serve for storage. The is a single drawer in the base. Inside the drawer of one table is the Brown-Saltman logo. On the bottom is a recessed, low-profile black base, typical of Keal’s designs. They are from the 1960s.
This pair in in excellent vintage condition. They were well taken care of. The drawer slides easily. The walnut wood has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness. There are no rings or marks on the inner level. The glass has no chips, nicks or flea bites, which is remarkable given their age. They have to be seen to be fully appreciated.
Each table measures 27 ¾” long by 20 wide by 18 ½ high.
This is a beautiful pair of designer tables that will add a touch of elegance to any living room.
