Mid-Century Slide Top Teak Desk

Mid-Century Teak Desk with Sliding Top, Made in Denmark

$0.00Price

This is a solid teak desk by Danish designer Peter Løvig Nielsen (b. 1925). It was produced probably around 1961-1967 by Hedensted Möbelfabrik in Hedensted, DENMARK. It features classic Danish modern lines and design. This piece is typically called a writer’s desk.

This desk features 3 floating drawers on the left that are attached to the legs by metal supports. On the drawers are the original curved, brushed metal pulls. The drawer fronts and backs are connected to the drawer sides by dovetail construction. The top is a slab of solid teak. The surprise of the piece is that the top slides in either direction to reveal a large storage space underneath. If you dislike clutter on your desktop, this piece has it covered. Plus, unless you showed someone, I doubt they would ever know it is there. It is finished on the back, allowing it to sit anywhere in a room. It is stamped underneath “MADE IN DENMARK”.

The desk measures 52 inches wide by 27 deep and stands 28 high. The knee space is 25 ½ high. On the outside, the drawer cabinet measures 14 ½ inches wide. The desktop slides to an opening of 10 ½ inches in either direction with an additional 12 ½ inches of storage space available underneath the desktop.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition. It is solid in construction without repairs. It has been enjoyed. The top has some minor wear here and there over its sixty year life. Along the front edge is some normal wear that could be aggressively sanded down should you desire. I have oiled it lightly and left it with its age appropriate patina.

This is a rare Danish modern piece with beautiful lines and excellent grain.
