Vintage Brass Sputnik Style Swag Lamp
A vintage, brass swag lamp with 12 arms and frosted globes, typically referred to as a “Sputnik” lamp offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
This vintage lamp is typically referred to as a “Sputnik” style lamp. This name was given in the 1950s in reference to its similarity in appearance to the “Sputnik” satellite launched by the Soviet Union in 1957.
This swag lamp features 12 brass arms with a collar on the end. Each holds a new, incandescent, frosted 15 watt globe bulb that can be dimmed with a wall switch. Each bulb is 2” in diameter and about 3“ long. The entire piece has a diameter of 20 inches. It doesn’t have a maker’s mark so we don’t know who made it, but it is beautifully done.
It has a gold tone chain 12 feet long with the cord being 14 feet long. There is a roller switch on the cord. It could easily be converted to a hardwired chandelier lamp if preferred.
This lamp is in excellent vintage condition. It has some minor wear here and there but no major tarnishing or pitting. The electricals appear to be in excellent condition. The bulbs are new and I am including 1 extra bulb and the spec sheet in case you ever need to order more.
If shipped, the bulbs will be removed and put into their original boxes.
This is a very cool, very mid-century Sputnik style swag lamp that will be a focal point in any space.
